ARTISTS INFORMATION AND ELIGIBILITY

ARTISTS INFORMATION AND ELIGIBILITY

Application Timeline

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Reviews take place regularly.

Opportunity

Good Medicine Collective is an inclusive network of Indigenous creatives working across all artistic disciplines. The collective exists to support visibility, connection, and access to paid opportunities for Indigenous artists, while reducing the ongoing burden of repeated applications.

Artists accepted into the collective may be considered for paid creative opportunities, including commissions, collaborations, public art projects, exhibitions, workshops, and partner-led initiatives. Opportunities may be local, regional, or beyond, depending on project scope and partnerships.

The application remains open year-round.

Application & Selection Process

To apply, artists must submit the following through the online application form:

- Name, contact information, and basic demographics

- Tribal affiliation and ancestry documentation

- Artist biography

- Work samples

For accepted artists, submitted biographies, images, and work samples will be used to create a public roster profile and may be shared through Good Medicine Collective’s website and social media. Content may be lightly edited for clarity or formatting. Artists will be invited to update their profiles periodically and may request changes at any time.

While we aim to include as many eligible artists as possible, collective acceptance does not guarantee selection for a paid project; selection methods vary depending on the opportunity and may involve internal staff, guest curators, selection panels, or partner organizations. We are committed to distributing opportunities as equitably as possible.

Ancestry Documentation

We recognize that Indigenous identity is complex and cannot be reduced to blood quantum, appearance, birthplace, or access to traditional knowledge. While we do not position ourselves as arbiters of Indigenous identity, we hold a responsibility to ensure that artists publicly presented for paid opportunities have meaningful and verifiable ties to the communities they claim.

Applicants are asked to provide documentation of social and familial ties to an Indigenous community—one that recognizes them in return and is acknowledged by others across time.

Accepted documentation may include:

- Tribal ID card

- Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB)

- A letter from a tribe verifying descendancy

- Genealogical research linking you to a tribal member

- Documentation of Freedmen descendancy

For Indigenous applicants from Mexico and Island Nations, please submit:

- A completed family tree, and

- A personal narrative identifying the specific Indigenous or tribal community you descend from, and how you know (for example: genealogy, geographic ties to known territories, DNA testing alongside family testimony of migration or origin)

Please note: personal narratives or DNA test results alone cannot be accepted.

Our review team includes individuals experienced in genealogy and family history research. If you have questions about documenting ancestry or would like support, we encourage you to reach out.
