Who the F*ck Gets to Decide You're Native?

Who the F*ck Gets to Decide You're Native?

Let’s cut the bullshit.

We’ve all felt it. The side-eye. The loaded question. The quiet, sinking feeling when someone asks, “So… what percent are you?” or "what's your blood quantum?" as if a fraction could ever measure the fire in your soul or the pull of your ancestors.

Blood quantum is a colonial calculator designed to subtract us until we’re zero. It was built to divide us, to make us police each other, and to ultimately erase us. But we are still here. And it’s time we stop letting a tool of genocide define our belonging.

This isn’t about slamming tribal sovereignty. Our nations have every right to set their own citizenship. This is about us—the people, the community, the heart of NDN Country—reclaiming the conversation. This is about expanding the circle, not building higher walls.

The Math Never Adds Up

Our old ways weren't about fractions. They were about:

  • Who showed up. For the ceremony, for the feast, for the hard work.

  • Who knew the stories. And who was humble enough to learn them.

  • Who your people were. Your clan, your kin, your community.

  • Who acted like relatives. With responsibility, respect, and reciprocity.

Blood quantum replaced all that with a cold, hard number. It’s a system that pits cousin against cousin, and it’s exactly what they wanted. We cannot let it win.

The Real NDN Spectrum: Makers, Movers, and Matriarchs

Forget the fractions for a second. Look around.
Our community is a badass spectrum of brilliance:

  • Enrolled Artisans: The ones whose hands bring our stories to life through bead, brush, or bronze, securing their family’s future with every sale.

  • Reconnecting Makers: The ones digging through archives, learning the language, and buying that first piece of authentic art to finally feel that connection in their home. Their journey IS a traditional act.

  • Disconnected Allies: The ones with a heart for justice and a wallet ready to support. They might not have the lineage, but they know which side of history to be on, and they’re ready to turn their dollars red.

  • Tradish Aunties: The ones holding down the culture, speaking the language, and welcoming everyone to the table with a little bit of side-eye and a lotta bit of love.

We need every single one of you. Our strength isn’t in our purity; it’s in our power. And our power is in our numbers.

This is the call coming from inside the house, babe. It's time to reconnect with your elders and your roots.

So, listen up. This is where the rubber meets the road.

At Good Medicine Collective, we are fucking PROUD to work exclusively with enrolled tribal citizen artists. This isn’t about exclusion; it’s about protection and power. It’s about exercising our sovereignty and ensuring that when you spend your money, it goes directly into the hands of a verified Native artist, not some pretendian scammer.

But our movement? Our mission? It includes EVERYONE who wants to see us win.

We are building an economic engine for NDN Country. And an engine needs fuel. For us, that fuel is every single dollar— from the reconnecting cousin buying their first beaded necklace, to the tradish uncle supporting an artist, to the ally who knows that supporting Native-owned business is a direct action of support.

Our goal is to unify anyone with a passion for Native art, Native stories, and Native futures. We are turning every fucking dollar red. And we need you.

So, How Do We Fight Back? We Build.

    1. Buy Authentic. Full stop. Support enrolled artists and Native-owned businesses. Your money is a vote for our future.

    2. Build Community. Find your people. Online, in person, wherever. Lift each other up. Share resources. Be the relative you needed.

    3. Carry Your Culture. Your way. Speak your language. Learn your stories. Make your art. Your existence is resistance.

    4. Welcome the Wave. Allies with dollars? COME ON IN. Reconnecting relatives looking for a home? YOU ARE FAMILY. Our circle is strong enough to hold everyone who comes with a good heart.

Your identity is not a number on a form. It’s the art you create, the community you build, and the fire you carry. It’s yours. Claim it.

Let's Get This Money (& Build This Nation):
We're building an army of makers and supporters. Are you in?
